Default cam key kit

This weekend I am going to install the 928 motorsports 4 degree advance cam woodruff key. It has been sitting on the bench for a bit and the belts need retension anyway. Not sure how many have this on a 951 but I would like to hear some feedback.

Assuming the key basically keeps exhaust side open a hair longer for more low end torque by offset. Looking at the front cam, does the 4 degree key hang left and I guess the tdc cam mark needs to line up so tweak the cam clockwise and tension belts as usual? Saw the install pics on a 928 which I know nothing about so hopefully wiil not do this backwards.

I just installed my key but cannot give feedback until next weekend. It'll be interesting as my setup isn't off the shelf.

But yes it moves the gear anti clockwise 4 degrees but you line up the timing marks as you should normally.

Cool, would like to hear how it works out.

With the cam belt off, adding the key and turning cam clockwise to tdc, is the cam belt installed 1 tooth off for just the cam sprocket?

You set everything as if you are running a stock key. The offset is between the gear and the camshaft.

I installed a 4 degree key about a month ago but I think I'm going to go back to the stock key.

It is noticeably stronger on the bottom end but at too much expense to the top end for my taste. I think I might try to source an adjustable cam gear, I suspect 2 degrees or so might be a good compromise for me.

I did the 4 degree key, and although it took some file time to fit, I am happy with the results. Noticeable lower end torque, and a little less high end power. Mike

I have an adjustable cam gear and I messed with cam timing quite a bit. In the end I settled in a 0 degrees. My personal opinion is that this is a much better mod for the NA.

I have the 4 degree key installed, I noticed very little loses at top end and a boost in low to mid range performance, I drive on alot of back roads so for me it works great, I also think its spooling a little sooner too.

Glad I'm not the only one that reached this conclusion on a turbo car. Like I said, nice bump to the bottom end and if all you did was drive in the city it would be a great mod. But it definitely loses it's special "zing" on the top end, or at least on my 2.5L, K27/6, 15psi at 5000 feet of elevation it does.

Lol, anyone with a 3.x stroker motor shouldn't need anymore low-end torque

Greg, the adjustable cam-gear is a really good option, especially if you want to play with it to get the 'power-band' exactly you want it.
