Default starting issue

My 951 has sat for a year. It will turn over fine, and I have spark, but no fuel pressure. I tried to jumper the DME, and although I could hear the fan for the turbo come on, I could not hear the fuel pump.

Is there a chance the DME is bad, or is it the fuel pump?

I have a similar problem after letting my car set for a year or two. My fuel pump went bad from setting, it was working when I parked it. I would also be sure to change the fuel filter as quickly as fuel goes bad these days.

To be sure a fuel pressure gauge would indicate if the fuel pump is working when the relay is jumped.

I have a similar issue...I have spark and no fuel...and a car stranded at work. I am hoping it is the relay but will go have another stab at it tomorrow when I go back armed with tools

I also had an issue a couple of years back..I drove the car to work and it wouldn't fire up. Turns out it was the speed and reference sensor. It wasn't picking up that the car was turning over, but I can't remember if the car had spark or not. I initially thought it was the fuel pump check valve (this will cause the car to turn over for a long time before getting enough fuel to start), but it wasn't the issue in that case.

Well, local import auto service place has a DME relay for me...I'm hoping that's all it is. If not, I guess I'm checking the fuel pump next?

Pull off your DME relay and pull it apart...I found that was my problem and was able to fix it with a bit of solder...(it is now my spare)

Here is a picture of my relay...I was able to scrape the old solder which gave enough of a connection to start the car and drive it home.

Took off he fuel line in the engine bay, and put the end in a empty bottle. Turn the key, tried jumper on the fuel pump....no go. inserted the new relay, no fuel.

Has to be the pump. Any suggestions on pump? I'm looking for a decent pump...no garbage, and no overkill for $$$$ that isn't needed.

One more test - you need to confirm that your fuel pump is getting power, in order to confirm that there's not a separate electrical problem (or simply, just corroded wiring going to the fuel pump). It won't be fun, but could save you money/trouble/time.

You're suggesting drop the pump and bench test it? Do I need to remove the tank for that?

Thanks.

No, I'm just suggesting that you test the wiring to the pump to make sure that the problem is not related to corroded wiring. The pump is external to the tank (fortunately) so you won't even need to uninstall the pump or disconnect any fuel lines. Just disconnect the wiring, hook up a multimeter and start cranking (or use a DME relay jumper to send power) to make sure you have 12V at the connectors.

It was the fuel pump. Thanks for all the help.
