What about surface area?

I also purchased 993 calipers.....but I have the 87 brakes. The difference in pad size for me is substantial. Not sure about turbo S versus 993 brakes though......

Lart makes a decent point - being rebuilt and painted is half of the value in what he purchased.

It is not just pad size - your front discs are also 4mm thinner at 28mm thickness, while the 944 Turbo S and 993 will have 32mm thick front discs and have a marginally bigger diameter at 302mm...

Swept area is exactly the same since the pads they sell for the 944 turbo S and 993 are exactly the same/interchangeable. IIRC they are essentially the same caliper but the 993 has the raised "Porsche" lettering is machined off. I looked into 993 non turbo calipers when I was doing my brake upgrades and found no reason to consider them. 993 turbo calipers are a different story though.

Not saying they aren't an OK purchase. Just saying they are no real upgrade.

I can understand the impulse purchase though. They are red and shiney. Most things in this world are attracted to things that are bright, shiney and colorful.

Thank you guys for your help. My current calipers has seized pistons. So, was looking to either rebuild or replace with same ones, and paint them red... Then ran into these. Actually paid $900. Perhaps a little over priced...
