Default Buying salvaged LS1 donor cars

Curious if anyone bought a smashed camaro/gto/cts-v for the engine and parted out whatever was in good shape. Seems like a good idea but wanted to see if anyone has tried that.

I'll drive my 951 for awhile til I get the suspension dialed in and fix the loose ends. Then I will go V8. My engine is a 87 in a 86 body with 90k miles. Since its not the original motor I have no bad feelings swapping it. I'm sure I can sell it to someone who would love it.

My plan would be to get a LS1 and start building and upgrading the engine, then drop it in the car once it's complete. Love to have 400-500hp

all the decent engines all sell for too much money on ebay. it's just a feeding frenzy, imo.... an ls3 with 28 k miles sold for $5,400 the other day! you can safely assume it was driven hard. here's a 6.0 liter truck motor w/ 68 k miles.... $5,100.00 *seriously???

the best deals are complete LS3s from Scoggin Dickey or Crate Engine Depot selling for about $6,300.00

GM also has a new ported head option for the LS3 for pennies....

I got a few friends who buy cars from salvaged auctions and they fix the damage to sell for profit. They tell me I can buy a nicely hit 03 camaro 06 GTO for $1500 to $3000 depending on the damage. Figuring the engine alone would cost more then that not to mention all the parts u can sell off to get money back. Guess I'll try this route and let u guys know if it's true. Id never pay $5k for a Chevy ls1 unless it's from a Z06

What this man said is the truth. I didnt realize lm4's could be had that cheap, I thought that was more lm7 territory which is also a very good engine to build up. If I were to ever do a v8 swap into an N/A tub, it would probably be an lm7 just because they are so damn cheap and plentiful. Cam it and slap on an ls6 intake with a pair of good heads and hold on.
