I was driving a 955 Cayenne and 986 Boxster yesterday, both tight fits-which is a bit odd to me because my 996 feels very open/big inside, was also moving around a '77 Targa and very big inside as well.
914 has huge legroom and shoulder space is about same as an air-cooled 911 IMO, they are pretty slow but still a hoot to drive and so simple and care-free to maintain, most importantly-if something engine-related breaks, go find a VW for parts, to fix...if I didn't have to deal with snow/salt winters I'd have a 914 as my DD
If it was my situation, I'd be getting a 911SC or 914 2.0

A couple of years ago I tried a new 911 at the dealer and I could not get my legs past the steering wheel. The manager of the dealership offered to have the seats relocated so that I would fit. He had done something similar for an NBA player. I passed on the offer. The other 911 I tried was a 1974 that I wanted to purchase for my wife for DE days. I could barely drive it. My wife hated it and we did not purchase it.
I tried to sit in a Boxter once and could not even come close to fitting in the car. My wife and salesperson had a long laugh as I tried to get in.
I will try a few more 1980s era 911s and a 914. If not, will stick with what I know works, a 924S or a 944. I have had 5 of these cars over the years.
Thanks for the input.

My wife wanted a new car and we test drove a 2003 Cayenne S (V8) and a 2009 Cayenne (V6). I was able to drive both but I was not comfortable. My wife was neutral on the 2003 and hated to the 2009. She had issues with what she called a winey V6. She purchased a 2009 Mercedes E-350 instead.
