Does going cat-less stink?
I have to have my exhaust dropped soon (rear main leak, yuck) and I was considering removing the cat. I was thinking about putting in a test pipe or bypass. My question, will my exhaust smell stronger? I had a 928S before with a test pipe (installed by previous owner), and my wife complained that the car stunk. Can someone tell me if their car's exhaust smell was stronger without the cat, then before. Thanks

Going catless smells like torque. Don't even think about it, just do it. Its one of the best mods for these cars and will greatly reduce spool up and improve power all through the rev range.

I think it depends on the tune & gas you're running. With the proper tune there will be a difference, but not much (i.e. if you're really trying to smell it you probably can).

its like when your in a room with a pretty girl and you just let out a silent fart. You start sweating and look to catch a wiff to make sure it doesn't sink or not bad enough that you have to blame someone else or blurt out "who farted" as a sense to draw the attention away from you being the suspect.

I agree. I've gone with the factory cat, aftermarket cats, and test pipes for various purposes over the years and have never really noticed that big of a difference. Think of all the pre-80's cars without cats -- some smell terrible and some don't. I assume that's because some are burning the fuel more completely than others, due to cams, carbs, ignition, etc.
