No, the Fabspeed downpipe does not have the factory tab, and they do not offer it. I personally see no real need for it. Looks like Mbuddha had Tim at SFR weld one up for him.

Stunning! That piece and every other shiny bit I've seen from fabspeed is a work of art. Makes me look sadly at my poorly self welded DP-back side exit system..

'stock ear mod' - do tell... is this the mounting tab?
Clearly shown in this Right of Passage picture!

Yup. Originally, I got the whole Fabspeed turbo back which included the DP but I believe it's not a true 3", more like 2.75? and somehow it doesn't bolt up properly. Maybe it was the not bolting up to the test pipe that I also got from Fabspeed and/or the other end not mating to the powerhaus hotside, who knows. I just wanted everything to fit properly and so "reluctantly", my shop recommended SFR and also recommended the stock "ear" for extra bracing for my 3L build. So that's how it went down and it took SFR like 3 months and numerous emails to finally got the DP---it was a work of art though AND no fitment issues after that and a true 3" system. Is it needed- probably not as many on have run without it. But for an extra benjamin while Tim was fabbing the DP, and my shop buddy recommended it, and for peace of mind---I thought why not? If nothing else, with a big turbo, high-heat, high stress, vibration and harshness as well as for those that likes to use V-clamps in this area, the "ear mod" for extra bracing imo, is a must.

The fabspeed downpipe is in fact 2.75" and not 3", but at least on my turbo, there was no fitment issues at all. My LR downpipe is 3" and also does not have mounting flange. I don't know of any aftermarket DP's with the flange. While I don't think it is neccessary, it definately couldn't hurt.

Guys,

I have never seen a downpipe like that, and I used to own a 951. Is that something they did on the later Turbo's (mine was an '86)?

It's the only stock DP I've ever seen. I've seen '86s with them and my '88 had one as well. If anyone wants I can snap some pictures as it's currently off my car.

All factory downpipes have this ear.

I remember an ear but not one that looks that large.....maybe it's the pic. I'll try to dig up the stock one we have here and see.

Both of mine are '89s and both had the mounting flange.
