The finish on the Alusil bores (which is essentially etching the aluminum to expose the silicon) isn't the same as a conventional hone process that leaves cross hatch markings.

So whom ever told you that is not someone that I would be taking advice from.

Find another shop to evaluate that understands machining of Aluisil blocks.

The shop who pulled my head off us a bmw shop but yes I have to get it checked out by another person who knows these motors .. but there is blow by Wich should not be there :'( I will try and fix the pictures tonight so u guys can get a better look if I do need to redo the bottom end I'm going 2.8l

If you re build it, just replace the rings and be done with it. I could have went 2.8L stroker or anything but i couldn't be bothered spending more money on new rods and pistons and crank. gets very expensive. Even Sids stroker is cheap but still another 3-4k or more depending what else is stuffed.

If you have the money, since your head is all ready there, and want a warranty, take it/ship it to LR and your issues should be over. Again, this is by far not the cheapest option, but sometimes you get what you pay for. No offense, but if you were looking for cross hatching in a standard alusil cylinder bore (no sleeves, wet or dry), then I would not reccomend you attempt this yourself.

yes the whole engine is goin to LR since i was planning on them doing my head , why i pulled the head off getting fully build now im having them do the bottem en making it a 2.8l

the LS swap or v8 would make great power dont get me wrong but its porsche i want to keep it a porsche and after its a 2.8l my little 4 cyl will handel and me much faster then most v8s on the road even as a 2.5 i take v8s from a 60 pull such as c5 corvettes with minor bolt on if i had a miaita or such i would put an LS in it but not a porsche but here and the photos

Honestly, that looks normal/better than some I've seen. I would urge you to run another compression check when you have a good head on there before sending everything out to be rebuilt. You've already spent enough money

I'd say it looks good, but you really can't be sure unless you do another compression test with a known good head. Perhaps some of the 944 Gurus can chime in, but I see nothing in those pictures to be alarmed about.

I agree with Scott, I don't see too much to be alarmed about, but you can only tell so much from pictures. There is one vertical line in one cylinder, but can't tell from picture if it is something to worry about. As previously mentioned, reinstall your head and run both a compression check and leak down test.

Item of note: Rings are tricky on this engine. Factory Porsche rings are rediculously expensive and hard to locate. Aftermarket rings from Goetze are not that good out of the box and require alot of fitment. Do you know which rings the previous builder installed on your pistons? LR does offer their own rings now, but I personally have no experience with them. My car was one of the reasons they had their's made. Finding a good set of rings proved very difficult. I finally bit the bullet and ordered a factory set from Germany for nearly $600.00 including shipping!

By the way, I will be shocked if you can get a 2.8L bottom end (short block) installed and tested at LR for $5K. I think you would be hard pressed to do it yourself for that price.
