Oil blowing onto headers caught fire, luckily caught it real quick with extinguisher and no damage beyond the massive hole in the cam carrier...

Ouch, sorry to see that. Probably left a screw in there, or one backed out, and it got caught between the tower and a lobe, with the tower losing fight. Did you spin the cam to see if the lobes have any damage?

That's what I'm betting at this point too, car still runs fine so will probably just find a new carrier and replace, could have been MUCH worse day!

Not in person but on the forums a while back. cam tower bolt came out and shot out the top of the cam cover.

Check your oil for metal flakes.

interesting, will definitely be looking for signs of damage, so far seems 100% beside the hole/oil spill/tow ride...

Check to make sure the belt didn't jump on impact before running that motor much more. Cam towers are a dime a dozen, but be sure to check the valve train and cam for signs of damage too.

Will do for sure, belt has to come off anyway so will definitely check the timing/belt condition, cam looks good so far too, didn't feel or hear anything just smelt a bit of burnt oil and started to see some smoke, pull over quick and grab fire extinguisher..

Good save.

Rinse that dry chemical powder off of everything ASAP. It's horribly corrosive!
