Has anyone ever heard of an oil filter failing or backing out on a track car?
On my 9th session on the track this weekend (car was running great all weekend), there was some smoke coming from the front right. Brought the car in and oil was covering the headlight motor and around it. Looks like the only area up there that it could be coming from is the filter. I grabbed the filter and could turn it by hand. Checked oil level and it was down by about a quart but not under the minimum level. The pressure never dropped below 3 on the gauge, so, no motor damage.

I lost an oil filter on the street once in my 914... Oil light came on, I shut the engine off and coasted off the road. Found a trail of oil heading back about a 1/2 mile to where I found the filter on the shoulder!

You know, in my 14 years of 951 ownership and being on Rennlist I've never heard of this.
If it were me, I'd replace the filter. Could have some damage to the seal which may fail again.
