Default Don't Part It! My '86 951 Build Part II, Body and Paint

Some of you may have seen the early part of the rebuild of this unloved '86 in the thread below:

https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...951-build.html

Well, I finally finally finally was able to get the car to MI to my brother's body shop, Scott's Colliission in Belleville MI.

Some early pics are below. I'll try to get a bit higher quality next time...

Plans for the paint job are:
Lots of disassembly before paint
Respray in the stock color, Graphite Grey Metallic
Remove the 'turbo' logo from the rear
Remove P O R S C H E logo from under taillights
Delete crest from front header panel
Delete the body side mouldings
Respray an extra sunroof or two because, why not?
Re-epoxy in a bolt where needed in the rear bumperette to re-use them
As many new seals as I can get my hands on
Install car stereo (he has a guy...)
Recut clearbra protective mouldings in the stock locations (eg before the rear wheel well)

Debating what to do with the wheels. The current ones are knock off, and early offset. I'll eventually convert to late offset, so I'm not wed to these long terms. One idea, GT3 Orange. Another idea, matte black. Or just leave as is and try to clean up.

My brother talked me through the paint process in detail, with info on how many coats, how much clear, etc. I forgot, but will post up later next time I talk with him. I am certain this will look better than it did in '86 when done.

The first shop photo was Tuesday evening. It'll be in primer by the end of the week, and should be in paint next week.

For reference, this is the car after years and years of sun exposure. My driveway in NJ. Before the drive out to Michigan.

Guys,

Anyone know a good place to get door seals? Mine are shot, and Pelican wants about $100 per door. Same for the exterior bottom window strip (where the window passes through as it goes up/down). These are about $50 each. I didn't budget this $300 for seals...

Anyone have good usable seals they want to sell?

Thanks for the recommendations on seals. Rennbay and Sonnen.

Some more pictures from today are below. My brother tells me he will wetsand the car in primer (400 then 600), apply 3 coats base, then clear, then 2000 wetsand, then buff.

Makes my head spin--Tuesday morning this car arrived at his shop.

First the sanded pictures, then taped and staging in the paint booth, then in primer. Bonus points if you can ID the dark red convertible in the background. One of many classic/muscle cars he does.

I get most of my parts from Roger at 928srus.com. Roger specializes in 928's but can get any part. Pelican wanted $447 for a new window regulator for my 951. Roger got an OEM part for $160. If Roger can't get it cheap he can usually point you in the right direction.

Here is the car in sealer prior to base coat, then with base coat. Note how pretty much everything was painted separately.
