Default Cool engine pictures

I also posted this on the Racing/DE forum but thought there might be some interest on this forum as well. Pictures are of 1.6L V6 formula 1 engine for 2014, turbocharged obviously and I would assume intercooled but I haven't quite figured out this turbo layout yet as the cold side looks to blow straight into the plenum. I also haven't seen a turbo with a similar bearing section. Anyway, I found it interesting.

Yeah, you'd have to think the plenum has a water-to-air charge cooler but it isn't yet clear.

Variable vanes for sure, right? No waste gate in the system I assume.

I wonder if the center section is a gearbox? The exhaust side spins opposite of the cold side. I'm not sure if the gears would increase or decrease speed. Interesting concept!

Default I know it's a DIESEL

MAZDA Motorsports skyactiv D clean diesel running ALMS LMP2 2013! Output specs are not available yet. The SKYACTIV-D that is currently being developed will boast a 14-to-1 compression ratio, a two-stage turbocharger and a 5,200 rpm redline. In street european specification, the 2014 Mazda 6′s 2.2-liter Skyactiv-D engine produces 173 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. Expect quite a bit more in ALMS/Grand AM spec.

This is probably based from their 1.5 F1 motor.
