Default Steam vent kit...is it true I no longer have to bleed? Plus some pretty pictures...

Been doing some reading on the Lindsey steam vent kit. I just screwed the fitting into my head over the weekend, so its top of mind. Is it true I don't need to bleed the coolant system anymore, thay it will bleed itself through the steam vent? If so, that's the best money I've ever spent!

A few pretty pictures of the headers from rennlister dnovak (Dave) at www.frontrangefabrication.com

Like those headers...
I'd still bleed it just incase, but yeah if you run it for a bit with the overflow open you should get any air out.

Pretty sure you still have to bleed it. However, I am under the impression that it's much easier with the steam vent. I'm not totally sure though. I have one in a box waiting for an opportunity to be installed.

I made mine out of $15 worth of stuff from McMaster. I do a "rough bleed" of cracking the bolt and blowing through the expansion tank, the vent kit can do the rest.

Just keep an eye on the level.

Yummm... Ethylene glycol...

Good to know that it works that well!

You bleed it, but the fluid circulates enough that the air bubble does not get stuck in the back of the head.

Yes, bleed. It's really easy. Plus you can see if there are any bubbles in the system.

Those headers are looking good Chrenan! I'm thinking of picking up some goodies sometime this spring from FRF.

Make sure you use either some sealant tape (if the threads are okay) or you can probably just jbweld in the adapter.
Definitely my iphone camera skills, the threads were sharp and clean in person. Lindsey sends the fitting with thread sealant already applied. Hopefully it works out.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. I'll still bleed, I have the stant coolant system pressure tool, so it's not much of a hassle anymore.

FRF is great, quick service and the welding is very nice!

We'll have to get together soon so I can have a look at the new goodies!

No need to bleed. Just fill, start with cap off and continue to fill until all burps are out, then cap and let cool. Top off next morning and all will be good. Mike

Threads looks pretty good to me. I just used the sealant that was on the fitting Lindsey sent and haven't had any leak at all. It pretty much self bleeds with the vent installed. Fill it, start the motor, top it off once or twice, and you're pretty much done.

I'm betting there will be a performance gain on most 951s by installing the headers, since it will get rid of at least 1 pre-turbo leak, several on others...
