from what i recall, it was a problem of pressure differential between the top and bottom side of the car when following in a cars draft. the laminar airflow moving over the front of the car was at a higher pressure than what was flowing underneath the front of the car, this pulled the nose up into the air until the bottom acted as a wind sail. thats my guess anyways.

The problem was the whole car was set up for minimal drag to provide higher top speed at LeMans. There just wasn't enough down force and combined with the bumpy track it was too easy for the front to get air under it. They tried adding dive planes after Webber's accident but Dumbrecks car still took off.

Yes, the height they reached was scary!

Still only a simple backward summersault, pretty easy manoeuvre I reckon. I barrel rolled a Formula Ford once -got in two complete rotations airborne, but only managed a metre off the ground
