Seems like a brave, ambitious, exciting project to me. Can just imagine how satisfying it will be when it all comes together. Nice work!
Thanks Paul!

If I was staying with struts, this is what I'd use. Has all the adjustment required. I'd use Subaru STI bottom arms with these: http://www.oakos.com/Merchant2/merch...WRX_ARMS_LINKS

You're just in a different league/planet/universe to me - and I thought I was bad. Takes real passion to nut through solutions like this. You do know that there is a fine line between genius and insanity? Respect! P

who if anyone has the technical capability to rebuild the so-called

unrebuildable, uber-expensive 968 front control arm??

they're $618.00 per unit at Pelican Parts.

clearly this is not acceptable when we're just seeking to replace the ball joints.

I don't want to use 944 control arms. I want my A-arms to stay 968 oem.

we need the answer to this dire situation, and we need it now.

Sometimes you are forced to go around the issue and return to the old style ball joints...

This winter finally! It's going to go well with the 996TT calipers I picked up to make a big brake kit out of!

Since I already have an '86, I can do the same with cheap and expendable early steel control arms and it is nice . . . . . the problem is you are still faced with crappy front suspension geometry when lowered to a "proper" ride height for serious track use. Too much body roll and less than optimal camber gain.

My "budget" solution to the above is waiting in the wings until I have time to work on my 951 again (all I have left is to bolt the damn parts on and test them out, so frustrating!). Once I have it up and running and proven I will post the results . . . . in the meantime I am eager to see any updates that Mikey may have, looks like a cool project.

I put the control arms on CMM to get the factory dims for the RX7 adaptation. There was a 29mm axial difference IIRC between early and late control arm ball joint position. Most aftermarket control arms have the caster at way too much negative.
What these cars absolutely need is a Billet arm that incorporates factory bushings and the 7mm cam bolt (for caster) with early bolt-on ball joints.

For spindles you could copy the Vette alloy spindles with bolt-on wheel bearings and incorporate the 944/951/968 attachment points.

Very cool project BTW. I'll be watchin

I'm leaning toward sending my old 968 arms to these guys for re-building after they re-assured me they'd come out solid.

anyone thinks this is a bad idea, please pm.

Chop, if you need mine for measuring, let me know.

Is this idea dead? I've got a 85.5 944 that is in need of new ball joints, and I'd rather spend a little extra on a long-term solution for this car than just throw $200 at rebuilding the ball joints every time its needed. Definitely looking for SOME alternative to this crappy situation.
