Cheers! Yep a rear subframe seems like the best idea. The stock setup is ALMOST a subframe approach.
I'm looking at Audi S3 rear suspension. When you look at it, you can see it evolved from our spring plate arrangement.

T is good people, as is his boy, Eon. Like me, they focus on getting a lot of speed without breaking the bank. In 16 years of running my car I have broken ball joint pins from a couple of different aftermarket companies. I'm interested to see where this thing is going. I have 200K miles on a set of Lexus control arms (on my Lexus). :-)

Heard from Doc Phil the other day, he was in Austin driving the COTA F1 circuit in a Caddy CTSV. Somehow he swindled his way into participating as a GM service adviser...
True to form too, went 4 off at the esses...
Re - budget racing, Eon's lap records are all done with most factory rubber insulated suspension bushings, all original 20+ year old parts, factory DME chip, factory header and no LSD...

There's a guy that used to work in Baton Rouge at Brian Harris Porsche, Kenny is his name.....post here are Werkstatt or something similar.
At the time, he was a fabrication tech for Flying Lizzards.
He was relocating to Va. (may be in Pa. now) and had a one off 944T for sale or parts so he wouldn't have to move the car to his new home.
Met him for lunch years back to look at the car for possible purchase.
Had some killer innovative mods on that car, 996 front suspension, center nut wheels, a lot of custom carbon fabrication.
You might want to look him up here for some ideas, keeping in line with one of your original priorities "keeping with Porsche parts where possible".

Update: Brake parts ordered.
Lexus 2013 GS350 F-sport brakes. Rotors are 350mm x 30mm 2-piece rotors, US$103 each. Calipers are forged monoblock 4-pot, pads are US$53/set.

- Machine hub flange OD for clearance on disc bell (Lexus GS hubs must be smaller...)
- Machine steering rod end adapters, from 944 links to Lexus mount on upright
- Machine 10mm spacers for caliper
- Buy pad pins for caliper (missed them in the order, DOH!)
- Fabricate top arm mount
- Buy top arm/links (these will be separate links with rod ends rather than an a-arm - sorta like the Audi A4 top link arrangement)
- Adapter block for top links, bolted to modified upright
- Machine upright for adapter block for top links
- Machine front bush of Lexus control arm to 944 width
- Machine 968 caster block bore from 18mm to 21mm
- Fabricate 10mm thick adapter plate to reposition caster block 50mm forward (and mounted upside down)
- Fabricate brace for caster block (much much easier to fit/fabricate for the revised location than for the 944 location, major benefit here)
- Fabricate sway bar linkage (944 M030 sway bar will be used, mounted inverted)
- Purchase coilover spring and spring seat + shock tube
- Machine adapter bush for coilover pin mount to Racer's Edge strut mount
- Buy brake hoses (944 may fit according to xschop, haven't checked yet)
- Buy/fit brake bias valve (t be determined)
- Machine and fit ABS trigger ring

Just read this post .... and blown away. Really impressive, and in my view very impressive project. I find many of the 'rational' posts very funny! Of course it doesn't make sense. None of it makes sense. Owning a 20 year old + car with expensive parts and dubious longevity doesn't make sense. If you wanted to make sense you'd be driving a Nissan Micra.
This is exactly what forums should be about. Thinking laterally. Pushing the boundaries. Exchanging information. Discovering what works and what doesn't.
Seems like a brave, ambitious, exciting project to me. Can just imagine how satisfying it will be when it all comes together. Nice work!
