Default wtf is going on with my engine?

first off my car is an 86.. no air bags, no abs.. 26pin dme ect.

now in the papers i've got, it doesn't anywhere say that the engine has been replaced or anything. (i'll double check every paper i've got)

now i have:
- a late oil pan,
- auto belt tensioner
- cast rods? (not the rarest ones) says 112 1R on there.
- the bearings for the balance shafts are different (the late part number)
- oil level sender isn't connected to anything.
- early intake manifold
- had a k26/6
- 2 piece headers, 1 piece or 2 x over (the wastegate flance comes off)
also my block says m44.lc

engine number is : 45G05501
Code - Cyl - Ltr - KW - Year - Model - Eng Number
M44.51 - 4 - 2,5 - 162 - 86 - 944 TURBO - 45G 00001>20000

the trans is non lsd with external oil cooler.

so what is going on here?

Hey Pauly does the engine number look factory or maybe something that someone has stamped on there themselves? Are you sure you dont have the rarst rods?

It is possible that your original pan was busted at some stage, changed with a 2nd handy which happened to be a late model one. hence why the oil level sender is not hooked up to anything as the 86 didnt have an oil level sender/dash ect.

I'll get a picture tomorrow of it.
the rods don't look like the rarst rods, the neck at the top for the wrist pin looks smaller. the whole rod looks different.

Sounds like someone did some maintenance, maybe a couple of upgrades and you have a late 86 block. Porsche did some crazy $hit sometimes, parts left over, upgrades on production when it happened, look at the NA 85.5 model, just a new dash that was coming in 86.

no where in my papers says engine upgrades, or engine swaps ect. i've got documents that came with the car, stuff the PO did, pretty much fixed a lot of things and the PO before him looks like a ruined stock tired DD.

im assuming my rods are cast?

112 1R on 1 side
944 944 on the other
5xx (forgot the numbers) somewhere else.
2.5 under 5xx.

What Bret said. I'm more likely to believe the engine had a problem and parts started getting swapped. The project manager must've had a thing for spring tensioners...

Not sure about the extras fitted to your block but AFAIK all engine numbers are at the rear of the block. Your number checks out as the correct year but not sure it's in the right place.
maybe they stamped it in 2 locations.

No idea on your conundrum...but FWIW that picture of your rod doesn't necessarily *look* cast. Looks like it could very well be forged to me, though the pic is a bit tough to make out detail.
