Hi, since the 245/45 is toast [except apparently for the newly released Bridgestone RE11 and R-compounds], I'm contemplating tire choices.
I like the price and performance of the Hankook Ventus R-S3 and it's available in the 225/50/16 size.
Sooo...I'm thinking I might just get four of those and put them on the stock phonies on my 86 turbo. A little more rubber in the front and a square setup.
Question:
- is anyone running this size on the FRONT and REAR stock rims?
- thoughts? Do you like it?
Thx!

On my NA I've run the square 225/50 R15s and 225/45 R15s (on 7" rims) - not a whole lot of difference there, the the lower profile tires make me run out of gear a little sooner.
However, I've also run 275/35 R15s square (9" rims) - and I've done faster laps times with that setup.

I have to drive to the track for DE sessions, so tire choices are clearly limited. This year for DE's I ran 225/45ZR16 Yokahama ADVAN A048's on all 4 corners. Fuchs stay in the garage with the bigger but non-R rubber. R rubber mounted on 16X7 and 16X8 Phone Dials. Setup appeared to work well, but since I've only got 14 sessions under my belt, I'm relying on Instructor comments that the car was balanced, predictable, with lots of grip. Only wish I had 4 of the same wheel since there is front to back swapping I cannot do quickly to equalize wear. I DID however buy 5 tires at the start. Paid off when I had issue with one and was able to quickly mount replacement between the Fri and Sat sessions.

I'm currently running very cheap Kumho 225s front and rear on 7 and 8" wheels. The tires came with the wheels, which came with the car. Apart from some additional sidewall squirm under hard braking (downhill braking zone on track) they have been fine, and don't look strange or anything.

I've been around that decision. I ended up waiting 3 months and then found a good dealer for the bridgestone potenza RE11 245 back. Expensive, but I love them. I also think they will last longer than the Ventus and the dunlop star specs.
