cv axles

cv axles
The rear axles keep getting loose on the outer wheels. When using proper torque spec to tighten it does not seem to be enough. I thought to add blue threadlocker, but that might be a bad idea later on so slightly over tightening is going to have to work. Any better ideas out there other than taking apart the trailing arms to re-tap?

Like Spencer said, make sure the bolts, and the bolt holes are clean of all grease first (be very liberal with the brake cleaner), then add some blue loctite and torque to spec.

Yeah, it's probably grease getting in considering how they are packed. Will degrease clean, add blue and see how it goes. I usually repair these on the side of the road and had enough of that. Thanks for the replies.

Make sure you also clean the mating surfaces of the joint and wheel hub. Excess grease on those surfaces when torquing can cause this issue as well.
I had this same issue and found that cleaning these surfaces was the trick. No problems since and no blue loctite.

Time to buy some brakecleener! In googling I came across Ideolas garage, there is a kit they sell that adds new bolts that use nuts on one side and c clips on the other. My guess is they are slightly longer than stock to get the c clip to slip on. Seems to me there might be balancing issue after installation, or weighted correctly. It is only able to be installed on the transaxle side, clever idea though short of a nut on both sides. Never had an issue on the trans side with cv bolts backing out probably cause it's easier to clean the short shafts.

The stage 8 bolt kit arrived today, nice design. How the heck do you tighten them, it's a 12 point bolthead. I can get an 11/32 quarter inch socket on it snugly, is there a special tool needed to torque these on?
