K27/8 Upgrade on 951
#16
Sorry to hear that Zeff. I'm sure it is still a fun car you have. I have a k27/8 with a MAF tial wg and all the supporting stuff. I would guestimate (I really need a dyno to be honest) when I'm running 110 and 20psi it is over 375-400rwhp. I am thinking though, to run a turbo back 3 or 4in system. And depending on time, funds, and if I can handle the head aches e85.
Any idea on what injectors are best for e85, anyone?

Car dyno'd @ 283 hp, 291 tq (engine a little tired, 100 degree day, and more tuning in store), afm, mbc, 16psi, 3" exhaust, 27/6, Maxhp chip.
The turbo was built by Charlie Brown @ Evergreen. lightened assembly and clipped hot side.
Freshening and M-tune soon.

I got 327 whp on the dyno at about 14.5 psi with my K27/8 which was built by Evergreen from a K26/8. I have mtune/tial 38/3" exhaust. I like the car but I need a bit more power. Hoping to get an E85 chip tune so I can dyno at 17psi.
Mike Lindsey told me that exhaust backpressure can cause reversion starting above 15-17psi with a K27/8 (earlier with K27/6) I am going to try to set up a backpressure gauge to evaluate this.
Charlie clipped my turbine wheel and did some machining but I'm not sure what affect it is supposed to have.

When we are talking about 27/8 there is not just one solution. 27/8 is more or less size of the turbine & compressor housings. It's more important to talk about what internal parts are used. So far i have had in different applications several 27/8 style chargers. Most of them used either Garret or Holset compressor wheels and modified KKK 8 turbine wheel. In all cases Holset main shaft was used. These Garret or Holset "combos" are usually good for 300-350 rwhp. I am currently building an 951 engine for a friend of mine. With this engine my turbo builder took a different approach. Insteadt of Holset or Garret wheels he choose a Mitsubishi charger's Compressor & turbine wheels. Turbine wheels is quite close to KKK one, with slightly modern shape wings. Compressor wheels is a totally different story, compared to KKK or even Garret & Holset wheels it looks different. Turbo builder promised this version is good for 400+ rwhp. I am not a turbo charger expert, so i don't know if this claim can be true or not. We can see the results during next spring when this car should be ready.
