Question Cold hard starts and throttle blip makes car bog down

At idle when cold I blip the throttle the car bogs down, then it jumps to 1500 rpm and settles at about 900 rpm. When cold my car will not always fire right up, it runs poorly for about 2-3 seconds once it does start.

What I have done...

*I've replaced the DME temp sensor and the fuel pump check valve.

*The idle blip/bog is much worse when cold, my wideband does a swing from rich to off the chart lean. After a drive it's only a slight bog, so little it almost seems normal.
*TPS - tested and working correctly, and adjusted correctly, throttle fully closed
*Fuel Pressure with a 3bar FPR - With relay jumperd 46psi, running 41psi, 20 min leakdown pressure 40psi
*Vac/boost - intercooler onward is good. air filter to turbo outlet, slow leak, sounds like from my air oil separator Could this be it?
*Vac lines - hooked up correctly

Track day tomorrow, think it's safe to go? Car is great other than the cold start issues.

sounds like a vacuum problem. hows your idle control valve? if car runs fine when its warm i think its safe to go to the track

What do you mean by this:

*The idle blip/bog is much worse when cold, my wideband does a swing from rich to off the chart lean. After a drive it's only a slight bog, so little it almost seems normal.

Could you describe this a little better?

When warm, I experience much less bog down when I blip the throttle at idle.

Thanks guys,

Are you running E85? I've only heard anecdotal stories about hard starts with E85, but might be something to look at?

Don't think it's a tune thing, haven't touched my tune since before this started. I think...

no E85, do have a Vitesse stage 3

Hesitation on tip-in is usually caused by a short lean-condition... Sometimes it is short enough to not be able to really "see" on a WBO2. Try adding a little bit of fuel, and see if that fixes it.

Update - I'm now fairly certain the hard starts and rough idle was from a headgasket leak. This w/e at the track it blew, big puffs of white smoke/steam out the tail pipe.

951s were not having a good track day yesterday. The guy with a fresh rebuild on his silver rose S either blew a cooling hose or caught fire in the orange run group at the last run. Saw him pulled off the track on the left with the hood open and lots of white smoke or steam, he was out of the car,and a corner worker was running out with an extinguisher. Not good.

But it was nice meeting you Taylor. Always cool putting a face behind the user name

Bummer, that's Charles, he offered to tow my car home after my HG went.

Great to meet you too.

Thanks for the offer, I'm sure I'll be fine once I can find some time.
