What is the method to drill the early struts to mate to 86 951 spindles? Does it just involve drilling out the bottom hole and using washers to fill the gap? I know this is not an ideal solution but I have an opportunity to get a hold of a free set of struts and springs from an 84. Money is tight right now, can I a good 474 strut on one side and use a drilled 84 strut on the other side just for a short time? I just need the car drivable and right now it is not.

When you set one up for a 5/8" knuckle ream then you've mastered your mill clamps lol
All kidding aside, will the cast spindle take a 5mm oval on the bottom hole?

So far the early insert to late strut mod gets my vote. As Robstah recently posted about the Bilstein HD inserts. He said the early strut top can be cleaned up, cut off, and welded into the late strut body. I posted how to do it with a machined adapter using the early strut insert loc nut.
