Default 2.7 block

I asked this question on my 3.0 crank thread but it's not relevant to that so a new thread. So 2.7 block, 3.0 crank and standard forged turbo rods, bearing in mind it's effectively a 3.0 block are there any clearance issues or is that just with the 2.5 block/3.0 crank ?. Thanks.

Paul.

You may want to double check to insure the rod bolts clear. That is the issue with the 2.5 and I am sure I will be corrected if I mis-speak but the only difference in the 2.5 and the2.7 is the bore.

Thanks Bob, rods are all the same I thought and the 2.7/3.0 block has quite a few differences to the 2.5 as far as I know.

Really ?, what's different between an S2 and 2.7 block or are the forged turbo rods the issue.

The 2.5 and the 2.7 blocks are the same, they share the same crank just the bore is different. The 3.0 includes all the lessons learned on the 2.5 / 2.7 block but with a longer crank. That is the reason 2.5/2.7 rods do not work with the 3.0 crank.

The 2.7 block has raised floors and connected cylinders like the 3 liter blocks -- not the separate free-standing deep cylinders like the 2.5 blocks. I've never confirmed but always assumed they used a girdle (bearing cap section) from the 2.5 along with the crank, causing the rod interference issue with a 3 liter crank.

I thought the 2.7/3.0 was the same casting, is the girdle line bored with the block ?. Also does the 2.7 block have the same windage ports at the bottom of the cylinders the 3.0 has.

Yes, it's line bored -- shouldn't mix and match without machining. I've never done it, but I've heard about people grinding the girdle a bit to make room for the stock rods... I opted for Carrillo rods...

Thanks for all the advice, I had a quick google and found some old posts, including yours and Chris White's that said much the same. 2.40 AM here, time for bed .
