Default Fuel Sender Removal

I found a great tool I thought I'd share. To remove the fuel sender from the tank, you need to unscrew a big plastic collar that holds it in place. Porsche originally sold tool 9190 for this, but they are very hard to find and costly. People generally end up using big channel locks or knocking it loose with a chisel, etc. and scratch up or ruin the collar in the process. After hunting around, I found this perfect $12.99 adjustable oil filter tool at Sears. Works perfectly! Even has a hex head so you can torque it to the factory spec of 26+/- 3.6 ft lbs. (after submerging collar in 60-70C water for 8 minutes and putting Optimoly on the threads). Just thought I'd share for anyone struggling with this in the future...

Wish I knew this trick when I did my E36. The "trick" I used was to take two big flat head screw drivers and try to pry in opposing directions. It worked, after 30 minutes, a bajillion cursewords, a gallon of sweat, and almost sending a screw driver through my thigh.

Lol, So many times I've been there. Glad you made it through ok. I might have sliced a few of my fingers doing this along the way.
