I picked up a '88 951 around a year ago as a project and haven't had any luck figuring out what the root cause of it no starting is. But after looking at it the other weekend i noticed the set screw for the ref. sensor on the fly wheel somehow was sheared off.
My question, would it be ok to drill it out and re tap and install a new set screw? and does it have to be a special set screw or just magnetize any set screw. Because if i cant get it running after this fix im going to sell it.

It's a porsche part 477 105 276 so with luck you can screw out the old one (file a slot for screwdriver, reverse drill bit, etc.) and screw in (locktite) a new one.

Nasty, sorry about that. Be sure to check the depth and condition of the ref sensor too then, as it must have been sheared off by something... Best bet for getting it out is probably a reverse drill bit a little smaller than the pin. It's probably glued in with lock-tite, so you'll probably have to drill it all out and then helicoil or time sert the hole for the new pin. Be sure to set the new pin to the correct height as well.

By the way, you can get a used flywheel and have it machined for cheap, but of course you have to pull the tranny, bellhousing, clutch, etc. to get to it...
