I got defected for having a loud exhaust..
It took about a year for them to figure it was to loud so now I need to quieten it. He said I have 7 days to fix it and take it to the RTA.
So I'm not sure if I should get another muffler, even an ebay brand muffler or something local like redback. Or should I get a resonator/ hotdog which I think is the same as a glass pack?
I can't get US (oversease) brands since it'll take more then 7 days to arrive.

I need to lower the sound a lot. i've got a 3" borla muffler which isn't that big. and that's it.
I'm thinking a hotdog/glass pack will to the trick but i'm now not sure after reading that it doesn't lower the noise

Find a way to stick another 3" borla in there, the longer the better. I take it you have no cats. I was able to fit a 3" magnaflow right where the cats were (looks like a cat) and a dynomax VT out back and it's almost stock quiet and zero noise during cruising thanks to the dynomax VT. Outside of the flapper valve, it's a straight through setup.
So either im going to get a long 18 inch glasspack/hotdog or a 5" round 3inch in/out blow through muffler which is also glass packed.

i bought the borla from summit when i was doing my turbo upgrade as i had as much time as i wanted.
i was also thinking of the 5inch thick muffler would be a better choice, I'll call up my local muffler shop and see what they recommend,
I even don't know what local brands we've got. all i know is Redback..

The real question hasn't been asked or answered! What decibel rating are you at. There is probably a number on the ticket. (Is it at a certain RPM in testing?) and where do you need to legally be?

Sorry Paulyy but that was funny.
So how come you only have 7 days to fix it? Seems unreasonable. Wonder if you can't say to them that you wish to follow their requests but the parts you need have to come from O.S. (if that's the parts you want?) and that you won't drive it until it's repaired. Might buy you some time.

My straight through exhaust 3inch to 2.5 inch with single rear muffler originally supplier by Racers Edge was at 115db on drive by tests in Dubai. Enough to get me into trouble so an added hot dog got it just down to the 105db limit if I backed off a hair on the throttle going past the noise tester...
Then I get back to Oz and find out they have a 92db (at 6 metres at constant 5000rpm) limit for one particular local track. That was ridiculously tough. Three attempts at modifying the system failed but finally ended up with three spirals and a standard hot dog to hit the mark with the sound meter.
I was convinced such a strangled exhaust would kill the power output compared to the straight through, but on the dyno today tried both systems back to back and it made only 3hp difference. Go figure..I could still have had my hearing if I knew that three years ago! The spiral type hotdogs seem to do a good job, not sure how long they will last.
