Default Question for those running 18" wheels and tires

On the street, what tire pressures are you running? I'm running 285/30/18's rear and 255/35/18 fronts. I'm not sure what the "ideal" pressure should be, or if there is such a thing, so I'd like to get a feel of whose doing what and the results. Thanks !

How about something aproaching what is printed on the side of your tire?

Adjust down from there?

I have run everything from 15 inch stock PDs to 18 inch MY02s and have stuck to what printed on the tire... if on track and trying to maximize the performance (by monitoring the tire temps between laps / alignment to equalize temps and pressures on track) that is one thing... but on the street you are trying to balance performance, handling, and tire life... which is what the numbers imprinted on teh tires is for...

As for the numbers on the car door, those were put in place for 205/50/16's and 225/45/16's, or there about. So, to some extent, they go out the window. As for what's printed on the tire, it only shows MAX pressure, not suggested pressure, so YEAH! what else ya got?

Only you would infer a spare tire with that!

Agreed on both points. I run nearly the same size tire though 245's on the front. At 33psi I seem to get an even contact patch and wear.

Now if I could just stop bending the lips on thses CCW's...

Thanks Rick. yeah, I'm a bit concerned about my new wheels, but I got them for a steal, so I'll live with it.

Funny, I was about to ask the same question. I may try posting on the 996 or 997 board to see what their door jams say. Same wheels and roughly same weight, right?

Did a quick search on the 996 board and found this:

"I just want to confirm that regardless of brand and model of tire, the cold pressure should be at the PSI listed on the inside of the fuel door.

In my case, 18" 36 PSI front, 44 PSI rear."

Our cars obviously don't have the rear weight bias of a 911 so I'm thinking 36 PSI all the way around. That's a bit higher than I've been running, I'm usually at 34 or so.
