Default Installed hood insulation pad, and now engine bay temps are insane??

So, I bought a hood insulation pad from Classic9 and installed it a few weeks ago.

Before installing it, I could drive the car, open the hood and touch the intake manifold w/o it being all that hot... I mean it would be warm, but not uncomfortable at all.

Now that it's there, if I pop the hood to check the oil level for instance after enough of a drive to get it good and warm, the intake manifold is painfully hot and even the dip-stick handle is a bit uncomfortable.

Coolant temps on the gauge are all well within acceptable, and nothing else seems amiss, but it seems pretty crazy to me that the hood pad would take the temp of the intake up that much..

Anyone else have similar experience? Does that seem normal? Detrimental? Thoughts??

TIA!

I always pop the hood and leave it open in the garage after a drive to help disperse some heat, I've thought about installing some subtle vents in the hood to let heat escape whilst driving in traffic, OP you've done the opposite.

The results sounds about right to me.

I wouldnt worry about the intake manifold temps, its not like the air passing through has enough time to have any heat conducted to it....

Well, I was expecting puppies and unicorns.... I expected temps to increase underhood, I'm just surprised by how much they increased.

I guess I just never realized how hot it was until I insulated it..

Yeah? I would think that would invite paint repairs under warranty...

Yea I always thought about putting them on but figured they would just reflect heat into the motor and IC pipes etc. Not good for performance.

The original hood liner on my car had crumbled itself into non-existence. I got sick of it leaving little black crumbs everywhere so I scraped a bunch of it off. Then noticed that the hood, in spots, started to fade.... so it seems that without it, you wind up cooking the paint on the hood a little. I've since re-installed new hood pads. If it came from the factory that way, then it can't be all that bad.

Maybe you should invent a hot air injection system instead of water injection. That would sell like hot cakes. Lol

Please show me any measurable amount of performance degradation.

Hood pads love me... this I know.... for a mormon tells me so....

Is it time yet to move on to what oil to use, how to turbo an NA, or how much boost can safely be run?

I can say, hood pads in place WILL save the paint on your hood in the even of an underhood fire! They ARE that good because they've got electrolytes!

Because everyone knows that depends on the size of the rim!

FWIW, I think a 944 rocking Dub spinners would be the bomb!
