You need me to provide data that proves adding heat to the intake charge air degrades performance?

You don't need me for that. Pretty much common knowledge for many decades now.

Take spool up and hp numbers now in July and then again in Dec and see what you get. I have the spool up data and it was consistent 200-300 rpm difference from hot air and cold air. And the surface temp was not measured with therm but hot was too hot to touch and cold I could grab the intake and hold no problem.

I'm not arguing that warm air vs. cold air impacts performance, as you said that is common knowledge.

We are talking about hood pads degrading performance on a 944 Turbo. Judging by your post, you chose not to install them for fear of a performance decrease, so please, go datalog the same car with and without hood pads and let me know if you have any performance degradation.

I bet the only time you will see any temps creep up is if you are stopped.

If you want, I can give you all the numbers you want for a car with hood pads. I datalog pretty much every drive.

Cheese cooks better if you insulate the hood...........

I see your point that hood pads do not increase temps enough to degrade performance. However, based on my example of touch alone of manifold and IC pipes and OP experiencing the same difference in manifold temps, it shows the pads reflecting heat back onto the motor away from the hood did just that.

And when my manifold was noticably hotter I know for sure spool up was degraded and I imagine hp as well.

If not, please do some dyno runs with the hood closed and see if hp is lower.

Is it time yet to move on to what oil to use, how to turbo an NA, or how much boost can safely be run?

I can say, hood pads in place WILL save the paint on your hood in the even of an underhood fire! They ARE that good because they've got electrolytes!

Roll the fenders and go with 26" spinners...It's all the rage!

I have been running without hood insulation for over a year now and have always had my intake manifold get very hot. I just installed a new pad yesterday. I will let you know what I find out as far as temps go but I do not think much will change other than it may take a bit longer to cook my stake on my hood.

Tough crowd today, must be that after 4th of July at work angst.

On my car, with no hood pads, it still seems to be pretty hot. Rather uncomfortable to the touch.
