951 Tach Watch

951 Tach Watch
I've admired a number of watches that feature car's tachometer's on the face in some capacity. So, I thought why not design one based on our loved 951.
This is one I designed myself with a template and I think it turned out alright, despite the fact the boost gauge doesn't move or anything like that. :P
If people are interested, I can have more made or pursue the design further.
Also, I could make ones based on the early and late NA, S, S2.
Here are some other examples I've seen:

No pricing information yet, but, I can imagine they will be pretty inexpensive. This band isn't decent quality at all, so, I'll be sourcing different bands of better quality.
Hopefully, I'd like to keep the price under $50.

In the watch world... pricing can be pretty wide, and "inexpensive" can also have a pretty wide definition. I wear a Movado daily that was a college graduation gift. By my standards it was expensive ($800) but by the standards of some others here (based on some of the watches I've seen in the FS section), my watch is cheap!
At $50 I'd buy one.

A few years back, a company sold Porsche tach watches out of Excellence Magazine. They were exact replicas right down to the second hand looking like the original in the car. Back then they were $300 and to this day I wish I got one.
make the watch more like the M one above and I would be in.

Yea, I can always edit it to add a porsche logo, turbo logo, etc. I initially opted for this simpler look because it is a carbon copy of the actual tach minus the rpm needle of course.
If I get enough interest, I'll go with a nicer parts provider to make it a nicer watch overall. I personally think the stainless steel band offsets the black watch face nicely, but, I guess you could always go with a leather band instead.
Also, if you notice, the tach isn't completely centered on the watch. I'd make it perfect centered for Rennlist folks.
If I got REALLY clever, I would make the boost gauge an air temperature gauge. You'd have to remember the calibration of course, "Wow, it's 2 bar outside already."

hell yes I'd buy one if it's $50!!! If you increase quality of materials I'd be willing to pay more even.
What's the size of the watch face? I tend to like larger watches -- I'm a bigger guy.
Also I'm a fan of leather bands. I'd probably change it if you put a metal band on it; no biggie either way to me though.
I vote keeping the pcar logo off of it. Basically in the form you currently have it would be awesome; subtle enough that it doesn't look too pretentious.

Question: what's the consensus on the trade off between cost and quality? For example, if we could make the tach face not look like a printout but pay more, would that be favorable to others over the converse: keep price low but look cheaper.
I would personally favor the first option, but I don't want others to feel stiff-armed. If the quality looked nice, this would be the PERFECT work watch for me.
Thanks for speculating on all of this. What a great idea!
