Specialized ECU Repair - ECU Doctors
http://www.ecudoctors.com/
I and many others here have known about this shop but I finally sent my DME to them. I have had intermittent issues and quirks here and there and finally decided that many of them might be due to old and in need of attention DME. Even if they didn't find anything wrong it was comforting to have some DME/ECU specialist give it a good looking over. After all it is 25+ year old circuitry in there and firewall leaks get to it once in a while etc.
Not to mention the 5 year warranty they provide after their work is complete.
I sent it to them with their pre paid UPS label and 2 days later they got it in the AM. That same afternoon they called saying it was thoroughly gone through and all issues fixed and ready to send back!
They found some bad solder joints, which looked ok until tested. Some capacitors and some other issues that are more detailed in the report that will be included in the shipment back.
I was also prompted to do this by Josh/Rogue as he said with the high volume of DME's he has seen and worked on with Rogue about 4 out of 5 are in need of some work or freshening up.
I would highly recommend having this service done!

Yes, $350 as stated and that of course is not just the work but the FIVE year warranty which to me is major for the DME.
My repair report:
Defects found on the ECU:
* Water damage
* Cold solder joints
* Idle control driver
* Corrosion
Repairs done to the ECU:
* Unit was resoldered
* Replaced idle control driver
* Clean up corrosion
* Replaced voltage comparator
Service:
* ECU rebuilt
* 5 year warranty

On Rennlist we love to give a vendor credit where credit is due!!
Now if I could just mail you my whole car and get a 5 year warranty on everything that would be great!! lol

ECU, where are you located in Lauderdale? I will be there July 8 - 14, can you do 2 ea(DME/KLR 4 total) in that week? Staying at the Hilton Beach front

Right on man. I had a similar problem where car would mysteriously turn off/on intermittently. Wound up replacing everything to no avail, so I opened up the DME and just resoldered everything myself. Worked like a champ after that.
I think everyone should do this as part of preventative maintenance. These electronics are old enough that tracking down this as the root cause is both arduous and expensive.

+1 on ecu docs, I had an intermittent no start issue, that I traced to DME since it would start when I whacked it with a piece of wood. Got a rebuilt from the Docs, been perfect for a year now.
