Default Motor Swap Project

My 951 was leaking oil real bad and was just worn out after over 230,000 miles so I purchased a recently rebuilt motor from DC Auto. I will be adding a dual port wastegate, Lindsey MBC, new motor mounts and clutch hardware. Here are a few photos of the engine swap. The motor is from an '86 and my car is an '87. The motor was advertised as an '86, but looking at the Xover pipe and the absence of an oil level sender on the oil pan, it is an '86. It should fit. I need to swap Xover pipes and the engine harnesses. There is a huge chunk of the oil pan cooling fins missing. I poured a quart of oil and it seems to not be leaking, however, the back of the oil pan gasket appears to be torn.

Yes, not cheap but...

Robert at DC Auto is a good guy. I would call him if you have concerns.

I emailed DC Auto, everything up to this point I have purchased from DC Auto has been great quality. The crate that the engine was in was high class. I've swapped the X-over pipe and cleaned the engine. I'm waiting on parts that should be here tomorrow before I think about pushing this motor back in. The motor was not cheap, but how many are floating around that are recently rebuilt with no core charge. I need to sell the other motor as a long block. If anybody is interested PM me. I also have a '86 cyl head that can be rebuilt for sale.

My '87 had the one piece crossover and no oil level sender. According to the certificate of authenticity, it was made in October '86.

Robert is sending me another oil pan and gasket. Should I use the 2 piece X over pipe or the 1 piece? I just received my Dual Port Wastegate and I'm real excited to try it out. Hopefully I can get the motor back in this weekend.

No proof of rebuilt motor. Which X-over pipe is better, 2 piece or one piece?

2 piece for sure. You can have it modified to a 3 piece for easier access to the oil pan.

Not very good news. The oil pan gasket was torn in about 5 places and working itself out, then I pulled the beat up oil pan off and found this.

It was listed as a rebuilt with 14k miles on it. I found another oil pan in my shed, I just need a new gasket. The bottom of the motor looks really nice. I think the capuccino oil was from moisture as it sat for a who knows how long and left over RTV from the gasket installation, which they failed at, whoever put the motor back together

WTF. thats not true BTW i had my motor on the stand for 2 years in a non- climate controlled garage and its looked NOTHING like that.I would look at the Rod bearings and contact the vendor. Do a leaking down test and compression test.

+1 at examining rod bearings. It may take you longer to do some more inspection, but, the last thing you want is to dump it in and find out you have do it all over again.
