I bought a tube style shift light which has a digital tach in the center from Auto Meter. I want to mount it on the top of the dash and was wondering if anyone had any ideas for securing it and routing the wires into the engine compartment.
For mounting I was considering making a two inch square of steel, tack welding a couple of nuts to it, and then gluing it to the dash and sinking a couple of screws. Doesn't sounds like a "clean" install to me so I was wondering if anyone had a better idea.
For the wires is there a way of getting from the winder shield defroster vents into the engine compartment?
Anyone have previous experience with this or any ideas? Thanks.

Does the light require the coil for reference? Some shift lights can run off the tach signal from the ECU, so you can 'T' into pin 21 on the DME harness (green / black wire).
Otherwise you can poke a hole through one of the grommets leading through the firewall, there is one by the fusebox, or you can route it over to the glovebox side.

It can only take a signal from the coil or "tach output" terminal on an electronic ignition module.
