The global car culture will forever benefit from his time here on earth -- he altered the course of automotive history -- rest in peace Mr. Shelby.

RIP Mr Shelby.

He took a British sports car, dropped a V8 in it and kicked Ferrari's bottom - probably the most significant David beating Goliath motorsport story.

The Daytona remains one of my all time favourite cars ever.

Damn. That's a major loss.

Although it seemed he was getting close to the end and was thinking it might be soon that he would pass.

I think he has just as much if not more automotive prominence than Henry Ford.

There's definitely a visual similarity between the daytona coupe and the 951. Has anyone tried fitting side pipes?

I think Peter Brock did a better job with the rear end than Porsche did.

Shelby American has a brief bio and tribute on their site:

http://www.shelbyautos.com/

He is an inspiration to not only car enthusiasts, but entrepreneurs as well. From bankrupt chicken farmer to a household name. The very best this country has to offer.
