Default cone filter vs stock airbox

when i bought my 88 turbo around 10 or so years ago and it came with a k&n filter , which now it its all cloged up i used the cleaning kit a few times but its time for a new one, question is wich is better stock air box or cone filter i read that using a cone filter sucks in hot air,is that true or is there no bennift between the two they are the same?

Bone stock car you will not see much difference.

Getting rid of the stock air box is more for a bigger turbo, MAF or more boost etc.

I have a Turbonetics TO4E Super 50 T3 #8 wet non BB, 3 Bar and 55 inj, I am using the stock airbox, paper air filter and AFM.I get 18lbs of boost at 3175 rpm I’m guessing between 300rwhp and 350rwhp. Runs Fantastic! Just have to Tweak the WOT map a little more.

So if you are below that then you are fine.

at 16psi i have 300wrhp, so if im under the 350 wheel i should just keep the cone filter on since i dont have a stock air box there is no point for me to spend the money on an airbox since i will not gain any performance

if you have the stock AFM keep the airbox because if the conefilter is in the middle of the engine bay then yes it'll suck in hot air and pointless.

OK for some reason I thought you had a K&N in the stock airbox. So as Paulyy said you will run better with the cold air from the stock airbox.

That's not really an arguement.
If you did have a higher flowing filter, and the turbo is getting cold air, you'd have even better performance.
(Actually, there's no way you'd be at 350 rwhp, currently).

The bottom line is that the stock airbox configuration and/or sucking in hot air through a cone are both bad.(the hot air would be the worse of the two scenarios, if otherwise everything else is stock) Needs to be fixed and one will notice a definite seat-of-the-pants improvement. Best is a MAF, and be done with it.
