Default Useless Ashtray made useful

I saw this mod on a 968 forum and decided to have a crack at it over the weekend. Careful dremel work to remove the top surface, repaint the inside, then 10mm of foam and a rubber matt cut to size to line the ashtray and voila, you have an ipod size, non-slip storage area.

I like that I have made something of no use to me into something decidely useful.

Very cool! For some odd reason I still keep a bunch of coin in there for the occasional parking meter or car wash.

I did the same thing 2 years ago but with black speakerbox carpet that you can pull and mold. It's molded to the shape of the cavity and looks stock. My phone has a rubber sleeve so it clings to the carpet pretty well and I like the look.

I like your idea too. The ashtray was pretty much useless. I only used it for gum wrappers, which now go in the console.

That looks really good, like a factory option instead of the ashtray..

Yeah - it won't stand up to really close inspection but from the drivers seat it looks pretty good and I am happy with it.

Oh snap! I really love the storage tray over the useless cassette holder! Must be a 968 thing?
