Tommy- I have a full 3 inch exhaust, a stage 2 LR intercooler, extrudehoned intake and turbo hotside. My turbo is a Lindsey Series 65.

What is considered high back pressure 2:1 bp to boost?

If you decide to vent the WG to the atmosphere, make sure you have a turn-down (or vent it to the rear) and it is well-secured - especially on the track. If it falls off, the cabin will fill with smoke and the car will catch on fire - ask me how I know.

With a stripped-out track car, it is loud as hell. I look at it as payback for all those un-baffled 911's.

Once I forgot my earplugs - only once.

I made my own open dump setup and drove like that for a year.

It gets annoying, after 3500rpm you can't hear anything else except "brahhhhhhhhh!!!!" I tied the wastegate back into the exhaust, and once again I was able to enjoy the noises the engine made on its way up to redline.

On a positive note, my friends all thought it was pretty cool to see fire exiting from the bottom of the car and out of the muffler while driving 'enthusiastically' through the mountains at night

I'm no expert on... well, anything, really... but it seems to me that if you wanted to reduce back pressure, but didn't want ridiculously loud and annoying, couldn't you tie the WG in near the end of the exhaust but just before the rear muffler? It would seem to me that the pressure differential would be greater across a point closer to the end of the exhaust than toward the front, so that would reduce back pressure, but the WG would still be sent through the muffler which would quiet it down.

Just a thought, I have no idea if it's a good one... never really thought about it before. I could be completely crazy

This may be a novice question but....

When you do a Wastegate dump pipe, I assume you need to block off the tie in to the exhaust?

Absolutely, unless of course your exhaust is aftermarket and you don't have one. Doing this on a stock exhaust seems like it would be a PITA.

yep, I had a spare pipe so I cut it, had one side welded close, and the other side had the turndown welded on it.

Yep, I'm going to cap my tie in. I want the waste gate dump because I wanna scare children and old people!

Its actually pretty easy to cap off. I used a sheet of thin gauge aluminum and cut it into roughly the same shape as the 2-bolt flange. Using the crush ring / donut seal, you then tighten the slip on flange from the dump pipe (which is no longer used)..sandwich the aluminum sheet inbetween the flange on the tie in, exhaust seal and 2-bolt slip on flange. Held fine for the ~4-5k miles i ran with it dumping to atmosphere.

Hard to put into words.. but you can get an idea of what i mean by this picture. Note my ghetto turn down.. .

If anyone is interested, i am pretty sure i still have my cut dump pipe and that aluminum sheet i used to seal the tie in. $25 shipped? PM me if you want it.

Okay thats what I assumed but just wondered how people did it on stock exhaust.
