Well, i bought a max chipset. And i wanted to install it today.
But i ordered a 24 pin as my car is an 1986 951.
Opening the dme i saw a 28pin chip....
Opening the klr i saw a 24 pin chip....
Looks like somewhere in the past some po got a newer dme and put it in.
Numbers on DME: 951.618.121.08
Numbers on KLR: 951.618.113.02

I did not even know it was possible.
Is the dme identical in ecu settings on both the 24 as the 28 pin dme boxes?

Just get the 28 pin and you are set. The 24 pin EPROM had half the code in the 8751 microcomputer and the other half in the EPROM. Starting in 1988, Porsche decided to put all the code in the EPROM so they increase the size of the chip. The circuit card was designed with the capability to go to the 28 pin EPROM so the broad didn't change, just the socket size. There is a jumper added to the board to make it fetch the first instruction from the 28 pin EPROM. So that and the 28 pin socket are the only difference.
Both the 24 and 28 pin DME work the same, just need the right code in the EPROM. Just get with Berry and he will swap your 24 for a 28 chip and you are good to go.
