Default Timing crank pulley orientation

I am looking at the pulley stack and was wondering should the flat part(lipped end) of the timing pulley, from the crank, be facing the engine or the balance shaft pulley? Sorry for the odd phrasing/question. Thanks for the help in advance.

The lip should be facing the balance shaft pulley - away from the block.

Ok. That is the way it is on the car. I have a lot of play on the power steering and alternator pulleys and the crank bolt is fully tightened. Could something else not be orientated correctly to allow for that much play?

Thanks for the help Van.

Don't forget the flat washer that goes on behind the timing belt pulley and squeezes the o-ring against the oil pump drive gear/sleeve.

Ok. I am pretty sure that I have that in place and that still wouldnt account for the amount of play i have with those two pulleys up front(power steering and alt.). I will take a look at things and post what I find. Thanks again for all the help.

power steering pulley needs to be centered, otherwise it would have play. it may be deformed at the base though - if it is tightened off-center the pulley could be warped (like mine)

OR if the bolt is installed with the shouldered washer backwards or missing, the PS and acsy drive pulleys will wobble...

Yes, John's onto something. Sounds like the special washer on your crank bolt is missing or backwards...
