Good idea on the keyed switch. Here you go for $13

Sorry guys, that keyed switch is a good idea but it's not a good looking solution! I know it's definitely more good looking than a broken engine...

Oh I didn't know that the red aircraft style isn't completely safe under that cover!? So in its upper pos you can actually push on it to flip it down?

Then it tends more over to the stock look with this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PORSCHE-94...#ht_3120wt_762

Can someone please instruct me how to get that thing to just be on/off since there's many contacts on the back?

/P

easy,

from the DME there's 2 wires to that plug. both brown.

4 - one wire goes here
1 - other goes here
3 - nothing

to make it switch the other way, nothing at 4 and put the wire on 3

Just ordered one of the keyed switches, I think I'll mount it in the glove box.

I want it to require a fairly deliberate act on my part (never mind a passenger) to switch between maps. I'd say having to find the *&$# key, open the glove box and turn the switch would qualify, lol.

For me, I'd use something cool like a key based electrical switch.

LOL. You can order those however you want, with up to 4 switched positions. Flat key or barrel key (flat would be a lot better on a key chain). And key pull is possible in three locations. I'd buy something from Digikey as far as switches and electronics go.
