Default Rear axel bolts keep breaking?

I have an 86' 951 no major add ons just a spec stage 1 clutch and stage 2 chip set and my rear axel bolts keep finding their way out and end up getting sheared off. I'm not stupid I used plenty of the heavy duty lock tight on the treads but they still keep finding their way out. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if I have a greater problem causing them to find their way out but if any one has this problem or knows what to do about it I would love to know what I can do to fix this.

There could be grease residue in the threads.
Do a search, someone came up w/locking bolts for the CV joints.

Ideola's Garage (a 'lister) sells Stage 8 locking locking bolts. They're pretty slick.

What are value are you torquing them to and do you know if your torque wrench is reasonably accurate?

Once fastener tension is lost, the bolts will shear off. This is because a majority of the joint strength is from the friction between the two joint faces. Also, be sure both joint faces are completely clean of debris and free of oil or grease.

I've been using McMaster Carr 96144A215 bolts (cheap and strong) and a star washer, works great.

You can also drill the bolts and add safety wire if you want.

AFAIK the axle bolts are torque-to-yield. Meaning they stretch when torqued and can only be used once.

Grease in the hole doesn't help either.

Safety wiring as suggested above can help keep them from backing out, too.

Lemming: I'm not using a toque wrench to tighten them down to a certain ft lb or in lb should I be? and if so how much?
racerxrick: Don't worry I'm not reusing the bolts lol its kinda hard to use a bolt thats been sheared in half.
carlege: What exactly do want to know?

Um, yes.

Do a search. From memory I think it's 27 ft-lbs? But do a search.

the trans mount is weak and side to side play can cause issues with cv axles.

By their nature, bolts in a situation like this all like to be the same torque - that's why it's important to use a torque wrench. If they are *different torques*, vibration harmonics will set up, and bolts will start vibrating loose. You use a torque wrench on your wheels, right?
