Default Need reccomendation for open element air filter, location is tight.

I have an SFR intake tree with a 3.5" inlet for the air intake. It is real tight with the SFR coolant tank.

The K & N filter I have is a bit long at 7.5 inches and binds at the headlight ( I even have the stopper removed). I will need to source a new one, was not sure if there was a better brand or if anyone had one they liked.

Thanks
Steve

you don't want to get a oiled filter like the K&N filter if you've got a MAF. they ruin the element by getting oil on it putting off the reading.

Really -- don't virtually all the aftermarket MAF vendors supply K&N or K&N style filters with their kits?

K&N makes filters in all combinations of sizes... have you tried using their website and finding one that's slightly shorter?

That is what I will probably do, was not sure if there was a more preffered brand or K&N is still the one to get.

I have seen mention of some foam filters.

my M-tune came with dry element filter.

on a few cars i've seen with oiled filters, their MAFs are covered in oil from the filter. with a MAF cleaning kit, you pretty much spray and blow off the gunk from the filter with air in a can that you buy to clean MAFs

THAT is froim improper filter maintenance. It's VERY common for filters to get "over-oiled". That's the underlieing problem. I've done iot myself.

Someone help me with the word "underlieing". That can';t possibly be the proper spelling, but I'll be damned if that one doesn't kick my *** every time!

TIA

possibly from improper maintenance. my old K&N filter was oiled, but also i didn't have a MAF sensor so i can't comment on mine.

but i can comment on a friends Turbo where he decided to go K&N, i installed it for him.. made sure everything was clean.
time to change it, the MAF had a light film of oil on it and the filter was dry.

that couldn't be caused by the crank breather because that goes after the MAF.

It's REALLY easy to over oil a K&N filter, and it happens OFTEN! The filter needs significantly less than what would seem logical to the touch.

I use an Amsoil/Injen dry filter.

The look to filter dust better than oiled filters. My MAF pipe is CLEAN !

Follow simple directions, and you will not have issues. You would have to be an idiot to make a foam, K&N or comparable intake filter to mess with a MAF voltage flow meter. DRZ1 says he's using a MAP sensor? Pressure from your manifold seeing oil is something other than a soaked intake filter.

Amen!

BTW marco, no matter WHAT dry filter you use, they require replacement at similar intervals. Dry is dry. Wet is wet. They are different animals and require different , and PROPER care.

Underlying.

I'd purchased dozens of K&N filters and never had one dripping or even wet to the touch when new...
