Default So why was I at Sebring?

Just doing a little setup and tuning……

Looks more Nissan than Porsche. Not the prettiest example imho but love to know more about the build w new turbo motor. Seem to remember that it was built by some guy for his kid and it had the 968 motor in it. Looks a bit more serious under the hood now.

The car is a ‘tribute’ to the 924GTP that ran at LeMans.
For those that don’t know much about the original car it was way back in 1981 and it was the shape of things to come.
The fender flares had the flavor of the 944 that had not been introduced yet, the engine was not the 924 turbo engine like the year before – it was a 2.5 liter alusil 4 cylinder 16v turbo engine with balance shafts (!!!) Many of the parts made it into the 944 engine.
Oddly enough the cam cover on the 924GTP engine had “944 LeMans” cast into it. I would sell a kidney to get one of those covers!
The Jagermeister car carries on the concept – it was built by Dave Smith of Smith motorsports in Panama City Florida. Dave flew me down to help out with the tuning for the Sebring event.
The car is very nicely built and it is based on an early NA chassis with several of the NA features showing through to the careful observer. Nice touch to use an early chassis for a closer match to the original 924GTP. The engine is a 3+ liter 16 valve turbo with some modern touches –
Individual throttle bodies (by Extrudabody – A friend of Dave’s that helped set them up).
Electromotive Engine Management (guess where that came from)!
Sleeved block
Twin cam drive
Dry sump

I won’t go into great detail since I did not build the car but it is built to a very high quality.

The wheels and tires on the car are the ‘transporting / rain’ tires. It runs on real track tires on track day.

At Sebring it was the initial shake down and we were still getting a lot of things done at the track (like installing the windshield!). The car showed some of its potential but we were sidelined by some of the typical first shakedown problems. Once it’s sorted out it will be an impressive addition to the vintage circuit along with the Owner’s 935.

BTW – I have to say that this was the first race transporter that I have ever seen with its own Jagermeister dispenser. Super chilled shots at the push of a button!

BTW2 – don’t mention Nissan….some guy named Adam will get all excited!
