944 Jagermiester build
I thought I'd show you guys a project we've been working on
It started out as a tired 84 944.
We have a customer who we have built several Badass cars for. His current street car is a complete custom body 996tt with 3.8l insane build. He also owns the Blue Coral 935 racecar and wanted to build something for is 14 year old son to drive and track. This car is still street legal.
The first part of the build was welding in a new cage , then body work from GT racing and all new suspension. Since we wanted to run coilovers all the way around to set the ride height and for performance of course,so we had to make some changes. I have a bunch of parts cars so we took all the suspension from a 89 added coil overs and a set of new BBS wheels. then the 89 tranny with later speed sensor for the aftermarket speedo. 968 brakes with braided hoses and slotted rotors. Then made some custom carbon fiber pieces, spoilers, etc. and wired and installed all custom autometer gauges.
It had the original 2.5l engine at first but that didn't last long. After a few track events and double stinting it at Barber, the #2 rod bearing failure occurred.
The idea was to let the son learn to track drive a car first. He already was racing go carts prior to this. Then we would build a bigger turbo engine.
We had hoped the 2.5 would last a little longer.
After it blew we decided we would install a 968 engine after the first of the year.
Then we get the phone call from Mike (the Dad).
Mike is friends with Alex Job ( Alex Job Racing , winners of ALMS, Grand Am, etc.). There was the end of the year HSR race coming up at Sebring. ( dec 2-5) and Mike was racing his 935 and wanted to take the 944. Alex had agreed to co drive the 944 in the enduro!
At this point the car wasn't even at my shop and we had a little over 3 weeks to get it done. Doesn't sound to bad !?!
We ordered a used engine from California (a week in shipping) and a ton of new parts including dry sump kit from CEP. We decided to dry sump since it would be a track use car for the next couple of years and we need the block and crank for when we start the turbo build.
But of course there is a shortage of dry sump 944 pans in the country when I need one. Dave from CEP sold us his original prototype pan to get us going.
By the time we got the parts in we had 9 days and nights to build , finnish and put it in the trailer!
So in a total of 9 days and nights we did the following:
removed 2.5l
Installed
New water pump rollers tensioners and seals
Removed the drive from the oil pump, oil pan ,pickup and cooler housing
Installed all dry sump components
968 wiring harness , mated to old harness and 968 computer
968 torque tube
Spec stge 3+ clutch and flywheel
removed the a/c condensor
new oil cooler and remote mount oil filter housing
LSD tranny with oil cooler from a 88 951
Patterson 3 gal oil tank
38 feet of SS braided hoses and AN fittings
WR Camber plates to raise the suspension points and lower the car
Battery disconnects
Transponder
Window net
MOMO seat.
But as luck would have it the floor pan was cracked and had a rust hole. So we cut the floor pan out of the 968 and welded it in the 944
WE MADE IT!
I'll post more about the weekend at the track later, but it was great!

I saw this car at Barber at the PBOC event and wondered what happened when it was towed off track. Car looks great and got quite a bit of attention. Looks like a good NASA GTS3 car that I can run with

damns thats awsome! thats what most people do as am extended multiple year project.....
the 944 with the 968 engine is the Ideal car to me, 944 looks and handling, with the power band it should have had to start with. coupled with being light wieght..... its a breath taking mixture!
the sad part is....im guessing with labor and parts for that build would pay for the rest of my college education 2.5x or 3x over......(yay for community college!)
