Well I just bought it about a month back. It has 121k now. The previous owner did an amazing job of keeping maintenance records. He has everything from oil change to tire balance, you name it. He even kept a notebook for every time he got fuel. But I wasn't going to overboost it to anything more then 15-16. I don't want to blow the motor for an extra 30 horse.

i would say you are past due for rod bearings. i was using an mbc right at 15 and threw the #2 rod commuting to work... hole was about 3 inches in diamter in the block, im sure arthro still has the pics somewhere... It was all i could do to smother the flames and hope the fire didn't spread to the rest of the car. fortunately it didn't but you get the idea.

Is there any reliability issues with the 340 kit? My car is bone stock right now but I plan on changing the head gasket to a widefire gasket but besides that I don't know what else (if anything) that would need to be done.
Did you ask about rod bearings or the Lindsey 340 kit?
If you are in doubt about your bearings, why do you ask about tunning? First things first...

+1 thanks, that was far more to the point.

All stuff works great, but I do have issues with the turbo blowing Oil. I will in the near future put in a restrictor to see if it helps.

If I should go for this today, I would go BB turbo!
If you like the price and spec, I say go for it.

Playing with the Mafterburner has also gotten me interested in EMS, so I will go for this in the summer. If you are interested in EMS, I would go that route in the beginning. Saves money in the long run...
When does your turbo smoke?

I was actually trying to get this thread back on track, but what the hell

It doesn't smoke, it smells
When coming to standstill (red light etc) after normal driving, I can smell burned oil. I have done all visual checks, and just can't find a leak. Done all cam covers, gaskets ++++
No blue smoke
My conclution is that a bit of oil is forced into the exhaust by the turbo....

The kit will get you close to that HP but the real question is will everything else stay together with the increase in HP. The parts in the kit will not be the problem, you will need to remove more heat and transfer more torque down the drive train. The kit assumes all the engine parts and drive train parts are in good order.

These cars have a lot of years under them. The 944Ts that run well and are reliable in that HP range have had a LOT of part replaced and rebuilt.

I have all the component from the 340 hp kit and like it. I agree with the above statements about maintenance. Nothing bolt on is the problem it's maintenace that is the important piece of the puzzle.

my 2 cents

...would it be out of line to suggest that you talk with John Vitesse before you make any decisions? His st. 3 kit is right about the same thing but I've never heard anything bad from his stuff, whereas the Lindsey stuff, well let's just say I've had to assist with a couple post mortem rebuilds.

I've heard good things about the Lindsey stuff too though, and every time I've dealt with Mike and Dave they've been great.

I'm personally running Vitesse's st 3 and I love it. Been outstandingly reliable (crap, I probably just jinxed myself) for over 40k miles now.
