Default Timing belt rubbing on camshaft cover..need help!

Hey guys...my timing belt is rubbing against the camshaft cover and the belt wore itself about halfway already...this is pretty insane. Does anybody have a clue why this could have happened? Bent guide roller or something along those lines?

Make sure the cam belt sprocket on the crank is installed correctly!
And whatever you do, do not run the engine till you figure out and fix the problem.

you either forgot some bolts on the timing cover, or , installed the cam housing while pinching the inner timing cover, or .. changed your water pump to a newer one which in turn is now causing the belt to rub the timing cover and now the cover needs to be modified.

@kev951 I did replace the water pump on the motor about 4 months ago. You think I would have to grind down some metal inside the cover. I'll post up a picture as soon as possible, or if you guys would prefer me to send it to e-mails since I havent posted a picture up on here yet.

This is happening to my belts too. After a t-belt job the belts were hitting the plastic cover. It seems to be just loose.. maybe missing some bolts. My buddy that did the belts says the cover is broken.. i dont drive my car that often so hopefully my belts are not chewed up yet.

Make sure the tensioner pulley was put on the correct direction , lip towards engine . The water pump pulley is pressed on by the builder and is opposite .

Also, to add to another problem I'm encountering. I know that 951's have like a slight whine sound to them. But my whine is obnoxiously loud. To me when I get close to the engine it sounds like the water pump pulley is making it sound really loud. Any thoughts on it, cause when I'm driving it sounds like I driving a jet plane...lol

^ +1 as probable cause. Also check that the two rear timing cover bolts are in place BEFORE the cam cover goes on.
