Winter Suspension mods
Upgrading suspension your opinions wanted/needed
Current set up, great for street too soft for track
Hacksaw Koni conversion 200 lb springs
30mm sway bar
Koni Yellow sport shocks
19mm adj sway bar
stock t-bar 23.5
Option 1- within budget
adding 400 lb springs for the current front Koni's
Koni 30 series rear coil overs with 275 springs
same 30/19 sways
stock t-bar
Option 2- max budget
Bilstein Escort Cup Coilovers
400 lb front
275 lb rear
Same 30/19mm sways
stock t-bar 23.5 (126 lb)
Car is now driven less and less on street and more on track.
Am I in the ballpark with the spring rates ?
Thanks,

David, there's a few different things you can consider re springs etc. Of course the valving of the shocks will determine the range but I'm sure the Escort Cups can handle the rates you've nominated there. Obviously the track/s you run at also have a bearing. Smooth, bumpy, tight, open etc. From what I've seen of your videos that track looks smooth and pretty tight in most places? Another big thing I've found that doesn't seem to get mentioned a lot in here when discussing springs is the amount of grip you have. By that I don't mean that it's a tangible amount, but I've often found as I've increased the mechanical grip level in my car the springrates can often need to be increased. When I increased springs from 630/710 to 800/900 the car was great on the same tyres, but moving to some slicks made it feel like I'd gone back to stock...well almost. In other words there was a lot more body roll just because the grip level had increased substantially. So I guess if you are also potentially going up in tyre size or improved compound then bear this in mind.

Looks like you are planning the same mods as I am. Are you considering bushings too? I spoke with Lindsey Racing and was suggested spring rates of 400/500 with torsion bar delete.

Race Car
I think either torsion bars or coilovers are in your future. My s2 is 350fr with 30 mm tbars and 968 030 sways and I love it. The 951 has stock tbars and 300 front springs and I can really tell it needs more rear

as being that expensive learning curve myself for road to eventual track use,
found best set up so far with 9 fr and 10 inch carrera wheels on slicks
a reasonable and effective set up on either 951 0r 968 are
the cup bilsteins with 500 lbs /425 lbs fr/rr springs with MO30 Roll bars with spherical bearings
and the std rr torsion bar set up.
Front camber is critical, half a degree out and handling changes
dramatically, invest into good top spherical bearing mountings, they are worth it to go with
the bilstein cup set up.check it out.

If it going more to track, do yourself a favor and do the TB delete and go to rear coil overs. Then you can adjust at will. You will need to revalue the Koni in the front or get new shocks matched to the spring rate. I would start at 400 front, 550 rear with no TB.

Drifting
David, I think the rates you're looking at are still balanced street/track compromise rates. If you want to optimize track performance, I think you need to be looking at 600+ on both ends for a non-lightened car.
