My tranny makes funny noises!
Here's another bug I need help to solve!
When I'm spinning at around 2,000-3,000+ rpm's, I hear a chattering...like teeth chattering at a high frequency and it can get loud. It's almost a tapping noise. Happens mostly in second or third gear, but the engine and road noise might be drowning out the noise in 4th and 5th, which is why I might not hear it in those gears.
My shifter has pretty noticable side-to-side play in each gear, almost as if each gear has the side motions of neutral. And the horizontal-pin that connects the shifter to the shifting rod (correct name?) seems to be pretty snug, leading me to believe that some of the bolts in the rear might be loose. Would this contribute to the chattering that I hear? Also, shifting from 1st into 2nd requires a pretty good tug of the shifter. Is this common or does it indicate further problems? Please tell me no! I described this problem as best as I can, but please let me know if you need more details.
Thanks,
sm
