Post When Upgrading Oil Pan

I changed to the updated style oil pan but did not change the old dipstick and tube.

Is the oil level on the dipstick going to be wrong ?

I'm curious to know the answer for this question also. I have an updated oil pan sitting in my room at the moment.

On my 1989 turbo, the dip stick extends 171 mm past the bottom of the outer tube, or 191 mm past the cast lip on the engine block that the outer tube is pushed into. Does this help? You also might try checking the part numbers in the PET program, if anyone has that available.

the new one takes 0,5 L more oil if I am right.
7l vs 6,5 l.
drain your oil put 7 l inside and check your deep stick so you know if it is right or not

David or Don, can you tell me if the updated oil pans use bolt-in plastic baffles or are the baffles cast into the pan? I have mine off now, and there is no plastic baffle. There are threaded holes in aluminum posts that look like a baffle could be bolted in.

Thanks for the picture! That certainly looks like my oil pan, but mine had no plastic baffle.

By the way, you have to unbolt the oil level sensor to clear the oil pick-up during removal and installation. Hadn't seen that in any of the on-line instructions, so it took a while to figure it out. Did you get the updated oil pick-up to go with the deeper oil pan?

I did not get the updated oil pickup with mine. I have seen where some people welded an extension onto their oil pickup ... I was planning on having that done.

Thanks for the info on the oil level sensor. I'll look out for that when I get around to doing the swap.

With 6 quarts the oil warning light is on with 7 quarts the oil is at the full mark on the old dipstick, what I don't know is this actually full, needs more or needs less?
