Arrow video

You guys have to check out the video of the 996TT vs. 3000GT on the 996T forum.

Im sure some of you guys with the modded out 951's could give that ricer a run for his money! <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" />

PS: Video though pretty cool is not worth saving. I feel bad for the 996 driver, looks like a nice guy and always suffered from bad launces (because they were obviously biased in favor of the 3000gt), and the one time it looked like he launced alright, he lost by what looked like a very insignificant half car length or so.

What's the deal with these x50 and x51 packages for the 996 cars? The only place I've seen them mentioned is on the boards...

I know of a couple guys that had the local P shop add the option.

Only thing I got out of that video was that the 996 driver is a moron. Aside from the stupidity of drag racing on the streets AND being video taped doing it... I got the distinct impression that Mr 996 doesn't know how to drive. I'm not saying that a Porsche 996 will beat every car in the world, or that there aren't 3000's out there that can be hot cars, but I don't think that tape really showed much of what either car is/can be capable of. And if I really wanted to drag race, I wouldn't do it in a 996. I wonder what would have happened with a rolling 30mph start instead...

My main problem with it tho, is that anyone can mash a pedal down on a straight and go fast. Lets see what they can do with a few corners thrown in. As for the 996 driver, he deserved to lose $500.

Regards, ...Scott

I agree that was a really poor show from the 996 driver. I was just hoping to see those punk ricers get their a$$ handed to them.

The reason I want to see them go down so bad is when I was driving my 944 NA they always wanted to pick on me. But now that I have the 951 I will do the picking!

We had a co-worker at my workplace with a late 90s Dodge Stealth. Mostly converted to a 3000gt. He was running 19-21lbs boost and was clocked 0-60 of under 4.5secs. That's with MILD mods. (Boost controller / fuel injectors) original turbos, i think.

He was also a previous 951 owner!

These cars are no laughing matter, there are fast, but unfortunatley heavy as hell too.

Now, I'm still DLing the video, but was this a non-turbo 996 against a TWIN TURBO V8 3000gt???

Oh, LIKE THAT'S A FAIR COMPARISON (in a drag race...)

EDIT: Okay WTF kinda mods was that 3000gt running?

3000gt is a 3.0 v-6, you can only make so much power with the stock turbos..due to they are tiny, they are 9b's. But with upgraded turbos and all the usual parts you can make over 400 very easily.

...but the bottom ends on the 3K/Stealths are NOT bullet proof. After 400hp and most guys recommend a rebuild with new pistons and rods (forged). I looked into these for a while, but the weight kept me away. A late model VR4 has a curb of about 3,840 lbs.

They can run a mid-13 totally stock if you try to break the clutch, but the trap speed is 100-102 AT BEST. They are all about traction, not top end grunt. Manage to get one off the line or find one on the freeway and a lightly modded 951 would have it's way with a VR4 or R/T TT...my 4 cyl Corrado can spank them at speed.

I also enjoyed how the 3000GT "red lighted" each and evey time, launching half a second before the 996. Talk about fair. Buncha morons.

That 996TT driver isn't exactly Schumaker... it was like he was learning how to drag as he went. Oh well...

I was checking out the 3000GT VR4 online a while ago and getting one down the track in a hurry consisted of the following:

1. Put car in first gear
2. Put right foot to floor
3. Dumb clutch
4. Shift as fast as possible

1/4 was 13.3 I think. Pretty quick!

The only advantage they have over a 951 is AWD. There's no way an unmodded one could take a new 996TT with half a driver. If you try the above in a 951, you'll either break something or spin the tries into second gear.

As an interesting point, Porsche actually went down hill in terms of straight line performance when they made the new 996TT. I have a friend with a 1997 air cooled 911 Twin Turbo and it will smoke the new one any day of the week. It is stock and crazy fast!

You can make anything fast but the Japanese cars have the advantage of lots of financial backing so they have alot of R and D to make high performance parts and tech. that really wake up their cars. A modded 3000gt should take out a 996 TT without much of a problem and that is one of the slowest/heaviest of the Japanese cars. You should see what that Supra can do! On the other hand if you modify a 911 twin turbo the cost is prohibitive and god forbid something breaks but it will fly like EDDIE BELLO'S 911 that ran a 9 second quartermile a couple years ago.

I camed across a VR4 in my 951 about a year ago I guess on the highway. He had exhaust - dunno what else (if anything) - but I left him at a pretty good clip.

They are VERY heavy... but if your a drag racer, its tough to beat AWD in terms of launching.

<img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> Guys I was just watching the video again and that 3000 is on the NAWWWZZZ look at the part on the video where the ricers show all the money they won.
Its after the part when they win the first two races. They open the center console and right above it is a red flip up nawwwzzz switch.
Talk about unfair matchup <img border="0" alt="[nono]" title="" src="graemlins/nono.gif" />
